We see social media as completely consistent with the way Mayo Clinic&#039;s reputation has been built over a century, through word of mouth recommendations from satisfied patients. Traditional news media stories also have been important, and will remain so, but one strength of social media is the ability to do longer, more in-depth stories, and stories about conditions that might not get mainstream media attention, because you&#039;re able to speak directly to people who are interested instead of the general public.

I&#039;m at the Transplant Games in Pittsburgh today, and here&#039;s a post I did on my personal blog about the rationale for promoting transplant through social media.
